The Daviess County Commissioners met for just over a half-hour, going through a short agenda Tuesday morning. In regular business the commissioners approved a quote from Hardrock’s Concrete of $36,000 for repairs to the parking lot on the north side of the courthouse. The commissioners also heard a report from County Highway Superintendent Chris Winkler. Winkler reported the paving using Community Crossing Matching Grant funds on Portersville Road and CR 700 E has been completed.

The commissioners then heard a report from Greg Jones from the Southern Indiana Economic Development Commission. Jones presented information on the impending water pressure problems on the south part of the WestGate at Crane Tech Park. Jones presented an engineering report about a needed water tower. Jones told the Commissioners that the Economic Development Corporation had grant funds available on a first-come, first-served basis. Jones said there was an approximate 3-month window to apply for the 80/20 grant. Jones also told the commissioners that the water tower would be controlled by Eastern Heights Utilities, located in Bloomfield. This led to a discussion about Greene County control over Daviess County investments. The commissioners asked Bryant Niehoff, Uplands Science and Technology Foundation CEO, to facilitate an administrative executive meeting with Greene and Martin Counties to work out the logistics for utilities at WestGate.

The next commissioners’ meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m. May 26 in the County Government Center.
