One person was killed in a crash Tuesday morning in Knox County, with a second accident occurring nearby shortly after. Authorities say the initial crash happened just before noon at the intersection of U.S. 50 and Anson Road, involving a dump truck and a pickup. Investigators say the pickup, traveling south on Anson Road, failed to yield to the eastbound dump truck, which struck the passenger side of the vehicle. The pickup driver, identified as 88-year-old Marlin Drieman of Monroe City, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital and later pronounced dead. The driver of the dump truck, 46-year-old Scotty Demoss of Solsberry, was also transported to the hospital for evaluation.
While emergency personnel were on scene, a second two-vehicle crash occurred on U.S. 50 westbound at Anson Road.
Preliminary investigation indicates that Richard Allen Walton, 62, of Washington, was operating a 2013 Chrysler westbound on U.S. 50, and Ashlee Miller of Montgomery, was operating a 2020 Kia westbound on U.S. 50. The Chrysler allegedly crossed the center line and struck the Kia, causing the Chrysler to overturn.
A Bureau of Motor Vehicles check revealed Walton to be a Habitual Traffic Violator (HTV) for life. Walton was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital for medical clearance and was subsequently taken into custody. He was transported to the Knox County Jail, where he is being held on bond.
