DSI’s Jonathan Wilfong gets a personal achievement award

         The Indiana Association of Rehabilitation Facilities handed out a prestigious award to 27-year-old Jonathan Wilfong of Sullivan recently.  Wilfong received the Justin Dart Award given to a person participating in services through an Association member agency. Wilfong was recognized for maximizing higher skills and abilities to achieve chosen goals.  The award was given at the annual Conference for Professionals serving Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. The award presentation coincides with Disability Awareness Month in Indiana.

          Wilfong is a member of Developmental Services Incorporated which serves Daviess, Martin, Greene and Sullivan Counties in our area.   Wilfong told us about part of the process of being chosen to receive the personal achievement award..

    Wilfong has a job, is going to college and serves on the Shelburn Volunteer Fire Department.  He is also president of the DSI self advocacy group.  He says he hopes that Disablitiy Awareness Month educates people about how able those with disibilities really are..

          Also receiving an award at the conference was DSI Member Kay Boas who is the Director of Faciliity and Community Programs at DSI in Columbus. She received the Pinnacle Award for an outstanding professional staff member in the human service industry.
