wcs

Washington Community Schools is wrapping up the school year with strong academic and extracurricular achievements. Superintendent Kevin Frank says the district has seen success across multiple programs this year, including a standout performance by the high school’s indoor winds group, which earned a third-place finish at a world competition. Robotics programs also continued to grow at all levels, with teams advancing to state competition and hosting a regional event that brings visitors to the community. Frank says the district is also expanding career-focused opportunities for students, including a new microelectronics academy in partnership with WestGate. The program gives students hands-on experience and is expected to lead to internships and potential local career pathways. Efforts are also underway to strengthen workforce connections through internships and partnerships with local businesses. District leaders say the goal is to prepare students for a variety of paths, including entering the workforce, technical training, or college. Construction is continuing on the Washington Primary School project, which will include new learning spaces and updated facilities. With about three weeks remaining in the school year, Frank says the district is focused on finishing strong. Graduation for the Class of 2026 is scheduled for May 23, with nearly 200 students expected to receive diplomas.
