Man pronounced dead at the scene of a Dubois Co. crash

A Pike County resident died during a crash in Dubois County yesterday.

        It happened at 7:30-am on Highway 64 close to Dubois County Road 650-West.

        81-year-old Emil Maier of Velpen was driving east on an ’08 Impala and hit the back of a 2010 Dodge Avenger driven by 40-year-old Lory Toby of Stendal.    Toby was east and was stopped waiting on traffic to make a left turn onto the county road. 

        Maier was pronounced dead the scene when first responders arrive.  Reports say he did not brake prior to the collision and its unknown if a medical condition or the crash caused his death.

        The occupants of the other vehicle refused medical treatment at the scene.
