Barr Reeve Basketball Coach and Teacher Bryan Hughes has announced his retirement.

In a statement released by Barr Reeve Superintendent Travis Madison Monday, Madison says Hughes informed the school board he wishes to retire from teaching and coaching effective this past Sunday, July 1st.    Madison stated that the school system appreciates Hughes and wishes him well in his retirement.

Madison told the Washington Times Herald there would be no more statements at this time.  Hughes told the newspaper that Barr Reeve is a special place and he needs time to work on personal issues.

The Barr Reeve Vikings have gone to the state finals five times under Hughes.  The basketball team won the 2015 State Class-A tourney and went to semi-state this past March.  He was 477-157 at Barr Reeve in 27 years.  In the last four years he led the state in winning percentage among active coaches.
