Free Plant ID Walks Planned Across Dubois and Orange Counties

2026-plant-id-walks

A series of free plant identification walks is planned this year across Dubois and Orange counties, aimed at helping residents learn to recognize native and invasive plant species. The events are being organized by the Invasive Species Awareness Coalition of Dubois County and the Orange County Invasives Partnership. Organizers say the walks will highlight common invasive plants along with beneficial native species found in southern Indiana. Four walks are scheduled throughout the year, each lasting about an hour and open to all skill levels. The events will take place rain or shine, with no registration required. The first walk is set for Thursday, May 7 at 6 p.m. at Dubois County Park in Huntingburg. Additional walks will be held June 6 at the Jasper Riverwalk, August 22 at Patoka Lake’s Newton-Stewart State Recreation Area, and October 29 at Niehaus Park in Huntingburg.
