Governor Not in the 2017 Motorcycle Safety Ride

(NETWORK IN)  The annual motorcycle safety Governor’s Ride is missing something this year: the governor.

Bike enthusiast Mitch Daniels began the annual ride when he was governor, and turned it into a fundraiser for the Indiana National Guard Relief Fund. The ride has raised nearly 70-thousand dollars to help families facing financial hardships because of overseas deployments.

Mike Pence continued the tradition, riding for a fourth and final time days after being nominated as vice president. But Eric Holcomb isn’t a motorcyclist — at least not yet. He gave dozens of bikers a sendoff from Monument Circle for the 63-mile ride to Seymour, and says he hopes to join the ride next year, but says he doesn’t have the experience yet. He exhorted bikers to lobby First Lady Janet Holcomb to give him the green light, and joked he’d go back to his office “and probably be listening to Steppenwolf, wishing I could be on your ride.”

The motorcycle safety group ABATE organizes the ride.
