Those opposed to annexation continued to voice their concerns over the process during a public hearing last night at Vincennes City Hall.

Many who attended last night’s meeting like Alice Whaley were looking forward to hearing the potential financial impact annexation would have on taxpayers n the affected area. But to Whaley’s disappointment no answers were forthcoming.

Vincennes Mayor Joe Yochum says action taken by the City Council last week to reduce the size of the areas to be annexed rendered those numbers meaningless.

Yochum says as soon as the new numbers become available he will present those to the council. However, it will not require that the city hold another public hearing.

Paige Sansone, a Certified Public Accountant hired by the Knox County Council says based on a breakdown of current tax liability and circuit breaker analysis some property owners could see their taxes more than double if annexed into the city. Other governmental entities also stand to lose money as well. Sansone says other tax entities like the Vincennes School Corporation, Knox Public Library and County Government would lose money.

While no action was taken last night, The City Council is expected to make decision at their meeting on June 22nd.
