Tom Wirts, a dedicated coal miner and a beloved figure in both his professional and personal circles, passed away on June 4, 2025, in Indianapolis, Indiana, at the age of 65. He was born on October 22, 1959, in Washington, where he spent his early years cultivating his passions and laying the groundwork for an admirable career.

Tom began working in the coal mining industry at the age of 18, working primarily with Responsible Energy, Peabody Coal, and most recently with Loudermilk Contracting. His expertise in operating heavy equipment earned him great respect among his peers, who valued his skill and work ethic. Tom’s commitment to his job was only matched by his compassion for others, evident in his final act of kindness as he assisted three individuals through organ donation, leaving a lasting impact on their lives. Tom knew how to treat others with curiosity, respect, and good humor.

A true enthusiast of life, Tom found joy in driving fast cars and spending quality time with family and friends. He had a penchant for building things and took great pleasure in planting and nurturing his garden. Those who knew him best remember his adventurous spirit, his loving and kind heart, and his infectious laugh that brought joy to all who were fortunate enough to share in his company. He treated everyone with courtesy and respect, always ready to approach life with humor and warmth. Tom will be missed by ones promised partner and best friend. He was handsome, loyal, generous and enjoyed music, gardening, and riding motorcycles.
