The Daviess County Courthouse is changing the way they operate in the wake of the global crisis.

Judges and the County Clerk are assessing COVID-19’s impact on the courts.  Right now the Daviess County Courthouse and Prosecutor’s office have no intention of closing but hearings will be handled differently.

There will be more telephonic appearances instead of in-person court appearances.  There’ll be more video conferences and changes in scheduling so as not to overcrowd public waiting areas in the courthouse.

The main doors of the Daviess County Courthouse are closed and locked.  Patrons need to enter through the East door which is the Northeast 3rd Street entrance at the ramp and everyone must be cleared by courthouse security before entering.

The Washington Police department has stopped fingerprinting services and they are not processing any handgun applications through April 6th

Citizens coming to the department will need to speak through the intercom or talk to an officer in person.  For title checks and other such calls the department is asking you to call them for an officer to come to you rather than you go to the department. The administration number is 812-254-4410.

Dispatchers will also be asking screening questions if an illness is called in.

At the Sheriff’s Department, outside visits are restricted, video visits are still allowed.
