Barbara Jane Boddy, 89, of Washington, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2019, in Evansville. Born Aug. 21, 1929, in Washington, she was the daughter of the late Jacob Hanley and Lucille (Fitzgerald) Madden. Barbara was a 1947 graduate of Washington High School and went on to attend trade school in Chicago, where she met and married the love of her life, Arthur Rodan Boddy. They enjoyed over 56 years together creating special memories before he passed in 2008. She had various clerical jobs before becoming a full-time mother and homemaker.
She was awarded “Homemaker of The Year” at the 1967 Indiana State Fair. Barbara also served as a Girl Scout leader for many years and was the cookie chairman for the city of Washington. She volunteered for the Red Cross at Daviess Community Hospital and for area Blood Drives. She was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church and was very involved in caregiving of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also an avid bridge player and she loved Rummikub. She just loved games, and reading.
Barbara is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Paula Fitzsimons and Steve Larsen of Washington, Debra and Mark Ryan of Bloomington, Nancy Benjamin and Keith Mills of Washington and Brenda and Scott Rainey of Washington; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Fitzsimons, Chelsey Ryan, Jacob Benjamin, Lucas Benjamin, Rita Matthias, Erin Eblin, Sara Land and Laura Rainey; two stepgrandsons, Larry and Matthew Rainey; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; an infant son Patrick Boddy; three brothers, Bruce,
Tom and Bill Madden; three sisters, Phyllis McLemore, Kay Dolan and Mary Jeane Madden.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, May 27, 2019, in Christ United Methodist Church, with Pastor Ken Wells officiating. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the church. Burial will follow in Sugarland Memory Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the Daviess County Community Foundations or the American Cancer Society.
