There’ve been no new positive cases of avian flu in Dubois County.

State and federal officials report that aggressive testing continues inside a ten kilometer control area and an additional 10 kilometer surveillance zone.  Two rounds of negative tests have been completed since the flu outbreak was discovered on January 15th.

Total depopulation figures number over 258,00o turkeys and over 156,000 chickens.

State and federal teams also visited nearly 2,000 residences in the 10 kilometer control area searching for and testing backyard flocks.  Over 100 flocks were found and initial testing was negative.  The flocks will be re-tested in two weeks.

Meanwhile the Avian outbreak has almost no affect grocery prices. Purdue University reports that despite the infection prices on turkey and egg prices have moved up or down by less than one percent. That’s well within the normal range.
