Elmer “Spark” Swartzentruber, 92 of Montgomery, IN went to his Heavenly home at 8:33-am on Monday, November 3, 2015 at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center.
He was born December 25, 1922 in Daviess County, Indiana to the late Louis and Katherine (Swartz) Swartzentruber.
Elmer was a member of Providence Mennonite Church and active in the congregation many years serving as elder, song leader and Sunday School teacher. He worked with his father farming and then for many years as a carpenter. He retired at age 65 from Crane Construction. He continued his carpentry skills in the community and volunteering on mission, disaster and relief trips throughout the U.S. He always found time to use his exceptional talents on many special projects for his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Katherine (Swartz) Swartzentruber; 2 sisters and 9 in-laws; son-in-law, Randall Yoder and 2 great-grandsons.
Elmer is survived by his wife, Alta (Miller) Swartzentruber whom he married on December 31st, 1944; daughters, Judi (Owen) Wagler of Jerome, MI., Marla (Gayle) Armes of Scottsdale, AZ., Donna Yoder of Jasper, IN., Treva (Simon Jr) of Jerome, MI., and Beth (Roger) Walton of Iron Station, NC.; 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; 4 siblings; 3 in-laws; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 6, 2015 at
Providence Mennonite Church in Montgomery. A private family burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held Thursday, November 5, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Friday, November 6, 2015 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Providence Mennonite Church in Montgomery.
