A man suffered life-threatening injuries in Dubois County after falling 50 feet from a tree.

The Indiana DNR says 44-year-old Shane Thomas of Cannelton has internal injuries and a broken back after the fall at the Ferdinand State Forest Property where he was camping.  It happened at 10:30 Saturday morning.

Conservation officers say they are still looking into why Thomas was in the tree but said alcohol is believed to have been a contributing factor in the fall.

Thomas was taken by another camper to urgent care in Ferdinand, then transported to Memorial Hospital in Jasper and later flown to St. Vincent in Evansville.
