Two were arrested this week in Jasper in connection a year old murder case
40-year-old Jason Atkins of Birdseye and 41-year-old Sarah K. Andry of Eckerty were charged in the death of 49-year-old Darin Atkins last July. He died of blunt force trauma to the head in his home. He had been dead for an undetermined period of time and several people; at least 10, had come and gone at the home before the death was reported to authorities.
Police explained at a press conference Tuesday that the killing was apparently the result of what was described as a love triangle. Sarah Andry had allegedly been involved with the other suspect Jason Atkins and the victim Darin Atkins, off and on for about three years.
The investigation including over 100 tips, interviews, reviews of text and Facebook messages and surveillance video helped police piece together what happened.
Both suspects are charged with Murder and Aggravated Battery. They had their initial hearings yesterday. They are both due in court again on separate dates later this month.
