Chris, a Bloomfield resident, fought a long battle with infections to his foot for over two years and on April 18th, 2019, it was decided there was a need to amputate his foot. In 2020, Chris was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney failure. It was planned to do dialysis at home so that he could continue to work and live as best he could. In January 2021, he was starting the process of having a peritoneal dialysis catheter placed, but failed his stress test. He went on in February 8, 2021 for heart catheter, where they found two blockages at 100% and one at 85%.
The doctors felt the need for immediate open-heart surgery the following morning. Chris had a very difficult 12-hour surgery with many not so good moments. Chris was in the hospital for 25 days, coded multiple times, and placed on a ventilator 4 different times. It was then decided that the only option for recovery was to place a tracheostomy tube in his neck. On March 6th, he was moved to a long term acute care facility in Indianapolis. Finally on March 27th, he came home. Chris still has a long road to recovery, but shows signs of improvement daily.
