Lincoln State Park offering firewood permits

  Firewood permits are  available at Lincoln State Park in Spencer County from January  6th to February 28th.  Trees that can be used for firewood have either fallen naturally or were dropped off by property staff.  The cost of one pick-up load is $10.  Monies will be used for park resource management and restoration.  A firewood permit is required for each load and they can be purchased at the property office at Lincoln State Park from 8:45 to 3 Central…

You can help endangered nongame animals

Give wildlife a head start this New Year. The Indiana Nongame Wildlife Fund benefits more than 750 endangered and nongame animals, including barn owls, hellbenders, Indiana bats, and many more.  All funding comes from Hoosiers who donate; no state tax dollars are used. For every $5 donated to the fund, an additional $9 is awarded from federal funds.  To find out more or to donate go to www.in.gov/dnr/fishwild/.

Craft and Vendor Fair in Otwell

A flea market and vendor fair is set for January 25th from 8 to 3 at the Otwell Community Center. There’ll be antiques, glassware, tools, toys, jewelry, pottery, coins, trading cards and more.  Breakfast, lunch and refreshments will be available.  If you have questions call 812-354-4556.  Admission to get into the fair is $1.

Hatchet Band Hog Roast

The Washington High School Golden Pride Band will have a hog roast before the Washington VS Pike Central Basketball game on Saturday January 25th.  Pulled pork, potato salad, baked beans and a drink are available for $5 in advance or $6 at the door from 4:30 to 7:30 pm in the high school cafeteria before the varsity tip off.

The Villages and Oak Ridge will have their 4th annual Chili Cookoff on Thursday January 30 from 1:30 to 3:30pm.  Contestants are invited to bring the heat and attendees are invited to be the judge.  Winners will include overall favorite, most unique, spiciest, best presentation and resident choice.  It’s a free community event. Every 98 seconds an American is sexually assaulted, every 8 minutes that victim is a child.   The Washington Free Methodist Church is hosting “Protecting Your Children, Advice from Child Molesters”.  It includes free training for all members of the community.    Several topics including the extent of the problem, common seduction and grooming tactics, talking to children about abuse and more will be discussed.  It will be  January 30th from 6 to 8:30 at the Washington Free Methodist Church.

Hatchet Baseball Pancake Breakfast

The Washington Hatchet Baseball Team hosts their annual Pancake Breakfast on Saturday February 1st.  It’s from 7 to 11-am at the Washington High School Cafeteria.  All you can eat pancakes, sausage, eggs, fresh fruit and drinks is just $5.  Tickets are on sale from any baseball player or at the door again on Saturday February 1st.

The Washington High School Cheerleaders are hosting their annual Cheer clinic for ages 5 through 6th Grade.  It’s Saturday February 1st at the North Elementary Gym in Washington from 9 to 11-am.  Chants, cheers, and basic stunts will be taught at the clinic. Participants will perform at half-time of and upcoming Boys Varsity Basketball Game. The cost is $25.00. Purdue Extension of Daviess County will have their annual meeting on February 3rd at 7:30-am.  It will be at the Washington Community Building at East Side Park.  Registration is at 7:30 and breakfast is at 8.  The meal is $5.  The Keynote Speaker at 8:30 will be Dr. Karen Plaut.
