images-32

A new military leadership position is being assigned to Naval Support Activity Crane as part of an expansion tied to advanced weapons development programs. U.S. Senator Jim Banks says the Department of Defense plans to assign a one-star Reserve Flag Officer to Crane by Oct. 1. The officer will oversee integration of the Navy’s Nuclear Sea Launch Cruise Missile program and the Conventional Prompt Strike weapons system, including hypersonic missile development. Banks called the move the most significant expansion in the installation’s history, saying it will bring additional manpower and authority to Crane. Located primarily in Martin County, Crane employs more than 6,000 workers and contractors across more than 62,000 acres.
