Media Release Campaign Announcement: Allen Brown for Mayor of Washington
Allen Brown has officially announced his intention to run for Mayor of the City of Washington, bringing a lifetime of public service, leadership, and deep community roots to the race.
A proud graduate of Washington Catholic High School, Allen earned his Associate of Science degree in Law Enforcement from Vincennes University and is a graduate of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. He currently serves as IT Director at Midwest Natural Gas, where he oversees technology, operations support, and strategic systems—experience that brings a modern, problem-solving perspective to city leadership.
Allen has been married to his wife, Andrea Kelso Brown, for 32 years. Together, they have raised two sons and welcomed two daughters-in-law: Brooks and Bri Brown and Julian “JJ” and Kendra Brown. They are also proud grandparents to their granddaughter, Cohen. Family and community are at the heart of everything Allen does.
Allen’s passion for public service is evident in his extensive experience. He served as a Washington City Police Officer and as a volunteer Daviess County Reserve Deputy, spent six years on the Washington Catholic School Board, and has dedicated 18 years to the Washington City Council. Beyond public office, Allen has invested countless hours coaching youth basketball, Little League baseball, and soccer—helping shape the next generation both on and off the field.
“I am proud of what we have accomplished for Washington,” Allen said. “With my experience, I will be ready to hit the ground running on day one as Mayor.”
During his time on the City Council, Allen played a key role in major projects that have shaped Washington’s growth and future, including the new overhead bridge, the Highway 50 project, the Commons, and the development surrounding the I-69 interchange, among many others.
Looking ahead, Allen believes there is still much more to do.
“I will be aggressive in pursuing additional development at the I-69 interchange while continuing to strengthen the investments already made downtown and throughout our city by both large and small businesses,” he said. “To attract economic development, we must continue to grow our tax base, which can ultimately ease the tax burden. We also need to view Washington as a whole—quality of life projects, housing, workforce development, and amenities all matter when companies decide where to locate.”
Allen Brown’s vision is focused on progress, balance, and opportunity for all.
“I will work hard every day to ensure Washington reaches its fullest potential.”
