Daviess County’s sexually transmitted disease and teen pregnancy rates have risen

Daviess County Health Nurse Kathy Sullender presented some alarming statistics to the county commissioners on Monday.
She says the number of Chlamydia cases in Daviess County has risen from a little over 100 cases per 100,00 people to over 300 cases per 100,000.  That’s a steeper rise than the state or national rates. She requested her department start a Sexually Transmitted Infection Testing Program.  The Commissioners gave their approval.
She also informed the board, that the rate of births to teenage mothers in the county was 20% higher than the state average.
