The Daviess County Commissioners handled several issues at Monday’s meeting

The commissioners on Monday  approved the list of polling places, presented by County Clerk Janice Williams for November’s election.  Williams told the Commissioners there were no changes in the list.

Greg Jones of the Southern Indiana Development Corporation received approval to apply for a Work Force Development Grant in cooperation with Greene. Lawrence, and Martin Counties.  The grant is focused on developing workers with skills needed at Crane.

County Commissioner Tony Wichman reported he would not longer be able to be the commissioner’s representive on the Economic Development Board. He recommended Commission President Michael Taylor replace him.  Also Wichman resigned from the Bennington Levee Board suggesting fellow Commissioner Nathan Gabhart take that seat.

The Daviess County Commissioners received a request from Solar Sources to extend the closure of part of County Road 700 E, for another five years.  Solar Sources representative, Mike Owens, said the company planned to mine the coal in the area, but we’re not certain when they would begin.  Commissioner Nathan Gabhart suggested giving a three year extension, with an option for an additional two years, if the company began mining the area.   The Commissioners will make a final determination at their next meeting.

After approval by the Commissioners, the records in the Daviess County Recorder’s office will be available on-line.  County Recorder Jamie Chapman and a representative from Docspop requested the county begin to offer the service at no cost to the county.  County residents will be able to search the files six times a month for no search fee.   The current one-dollar per page fee for items printed will remain whether on-line or in the office.   There will be graduated fee schedule for more than six searches per month on the website.  Docspop also provides the service to the County Clerk’s office.
