The Daviess County Council met Wednesday morning for its regular June session. Council members heard an update from Daviess County Prosecutor Abby Brown on the state’s decision to move Adult Protective Services to a third-party vendor as of July 1. Council members asked if there would be a need for the county to provide office space and how the change would affect the efficiency of service. Brown said no office space has been requested and that she was unsure how the new APS provider planned to conduct business. In regular business, the council approved an amendment to the Innkeepers Tax Form that tracks room availability and occupancy. The council also approved a request from the airport board to apply for a grant to help fund the new taxiway and access road. The council tabled the consideration of several tax abatements until completed forms are available.
In other business, the council approved a request from the circuit court for an additional appropriation of $150,000 for pauper attorneys for the remainder of the year. The council voted down a request for $2,500 for inmate needs at the Security Center after Sheriff Gary Allison said he could use the jail’s commissary fund. The council approved using funds from the unrestricted opioid settlement fund for equipment and furniture for the child services office. The Council also approves the appropriation of funds from a 100% reimbursable grant of $29,874 for the Central Dispatch Think Map GIS systems, and the Council reappropriated $150,000 reimbursed to the County by Loughmiller Group as part of the Town of Odon project. The council also approved requests for transfers of funds between line items in the budget. The next council meeting is scheduled for July 9.
