Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch and Indiana State Department of Agriculture Director Don Lamb honored 59 farming families with a Hoosier Homestead Award at the Indiana Statehouse on Friday. To qualify for the Hoosier Homestead Award, farms must be owned by the same family for more than 100 consecutive years and cover more than 20 acres. If the farm is less than 20 acres, it must produce more than $1,000 of agricultural products per year. Among the honorees this year, three Daviess County farm families stood out. The Ferguson Farm was recognized for over 150 years of ownership, while the Flinn Family Farm and the Kavanaugh Family Farm received Centennial Awards for over 100 years of ownership. In Knox County, the Marchino Farm was honored for over 150 years, and the Whitehead Farm in Pike County celebrated over 150 years of ownership. Congratulations to these farming families for their remarkable achievement and special recognition.
