Jasper Intersection Collision Results in Charges and Injuries

An intersection collision at US 231 and SR 162 involving two vehicles has led to charges and injuries. Kyla Chambers, the driver of Vehicle #1, ran a red light while heading southbound, colliding with Vehicle #2, driven by Richard Verkamp, who had a green light to proceed westbound. Chambers and her passenger, Eddie Kempf, were transported to the hospital for leg and wrist pain. Meanwhile, Richard Verkamp and his passenger, Sarah Verkamp, suffered more severe injuries, including a fractured neck and punctured lung for Richard and a fractured clavicle for Sarah. Upon investigation at Memorial Hospital, Chambers was found to be under the influence of methamphetamines, amphetamines, cannabinoids, and MDMA. She faces charges such as causing catastrophic injury when operating a vehicle under the influence, causing serious bodily injury, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, and operating a vehicle with a controlled substance in the blood. Chambers was also cited for disregarding a traffic control device. She has been lodged in the Dubois County Security Center.
