Jasper City Weather Sirens Error, Power Outage Challenges

In response to a Tornado warning issued for the northern part of Dubois County on August 7th, the Jasper Police Department proactively activated the Jasper City Weather Sirens. Despite the city not being in the tornado’s path, three sirens on 17th Street, 20th Street, and 37th Street failed to sound due to localized power outages. While all sirens have battery backups, these backups also failed at these specific locations. Inspections and repairs are underway. The Jasper Police Department reminds citizens that outdoor weather sirens are not designed to wake individuals indoors or replace personal notification methods such as NOAA weather radios or weather apps. The National Weather Service says at least three tornadoes hit portions of southern Indiana late Sunday night into early Monday morning.
