Eagle Scout Takes On Invasive Plants: Michael Waltry’s Educational Project Gains Community Support

Michael Waltry, a member of Troop 210 in Knox County, is teaming up with the (CISMA) to undertake his Eagle Scout project. The initiative aims to raise awareness about invasive plant species in various parks within Knox County. The project involves installing informative signs about invasive plants at Ouabache Trails, Hillcrest, Fox Ridge, and Pyramid Mounds parks, as well as at the Rendezvous and Sugar Loaf Mound locations. Michael presented his proposal before the Knox County Parks Board, seeking approval for sign placement. Each of the six signs will measure 16 x 20 and be made of durable metal material. They will carry essential information about specific invasive species found in each park. The Eagle Scout project comes with a modest cost, with each sign priced at $50. The total budget for the initiative amounts to $300. The proposal received unanimous approval from the Knox County Parks Board, reflecting the community’s support for this educational effort to combat invasive plants in local parks.
