Early Thursday afternoon, the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office received an emergency medical call to Bear Run Coal Mine for an employee-involved accident. Upon arrival, medical personnel on scene told officers that an employee had been struck by a large piece of equipment. The employee was pronounced dead on the scene before officers arrived. All mining operations were suspended while the Mining Safety and Health Administration conducted an investigation into the accident. The name of the victim is not being released at this time.
