Vera Jean (Jeffers) Lyon/Hamilton, 97, of Loogootee, Indiana passed away on at 12:10 p.m. Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at Sycamore Care Strategies in Loogootee, Indiana.

She was born December 8, 1924 in Greene County, Indiana to the late Charles Homer Jeffers and Mary Etta (Sisil) Jeffers.

Vera was a 1942 graduate of Loogootee High School.

She met William Leon Lyon whom she married in 1943. Together they started a family business, Lyon’s General Store, and later, Lyon’s Farm Center, on Hwy 50 in Loogootee. In her earlier years, she ran the concession stand at West Boggs Park swimming area when it first opened. She also opened a business, Lyon Antiques and Gift Shop, on Church St in Loogootee. After the death of her husband, William (Bill) Lyon, she remarried to Clarence (Paul) Hamilton and resided in Washington, Indiana. After his passing, she returned to Loogootee.

She is preceded in death by her husband, William L. Lyon, who passed November 25, 1983 and husband, Paul Hamilton, who passed February 4, 2016. Also her parents Charles and Mary Etta Jeffers; sisters Imola Flynn, Fanny Coffey, Margaret Jeffers, and Wilmina Jeffers; brothers, Lowell Jeffers, Clarence Jeffers, and William (Bill) Jeffers.

She is survived by three sons, William (Billy) Lyon, Brant Lyon and wife Dena, Charles Lyon and wife Peggy.

Grandchildren Kim Pendley, Will Lyon, Ricky Lyon, Brantley Lyon, Andy Lyon, Jeffery Lyon, Brett Lyon, Jonathon Taylor, and Stephanie Taylor and 14 great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 12, 2022 at Blake Funeral Home in Loogootee, Indiana with Fr. Walker to officiate. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Friends may visit from 9:00am until 11:00am at Blake Funeral Home in Loogootee, Indiana.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Martin County Humane Society in honor of her beloved dog, “Buddy”.
