Etta (McClure) Byerley Wolfe, 95, Vincennes, passed away Thursday, June 22, 2022, at her daughter’s home in Jasper, surrounded by loved ones.

She was born May 30, 1927, to the late Chauncy Randall and Kate (Waddell) McClure.  Etta was a lifelong resident of Knox County and graduated from Oaktown High School in 1945.

An advocate for women’s advancement in the workforce, she worked at various places early in life, including Port Shepard’s Store, Gimble Bond, BF Goodrich, and Red’s Country Store.  She made her career in banking at Old National Bank (formerly Security Bank & Trust), where she worked her way from teller to assistant vice president, retiring in December of 1995.  Etta was a three-time recipient of Old National’s Customer Service Award of Excellence for the Shiny Penny, an elite honor awarded only by nomination.  After retirement, she continued working at Accent Shop, GNC, Something Special, Jewel’s, and Gardner-Brockman/Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home.

Devotion to her family was the central focus of her life; she was invested in their happiness and experiencing life with them.  Involvement in church worship, committees, and activities was important to her.  She had a heart of compassion, and she used her spiritual gifts of hospitality and generosity well.  Etta was rich with friendships and found real joy hosting card parties and events in her home; she also enjoyed gospel music, travel, and being on the go.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Doug Warren of Jasper, granddaughters Erin (Byron) Lahr of Swayzee and Erika (Trevor) Shepard.  She cherished her great-grandchildren, Klair and Warren Shepard.  She is also survived by niece Susan (Rex) Marchino of Vincennes and her family.  Etta was preceded in death by her husband Donald L. Byerley in 2009, husband Bob L. Wolfe in 2020, sister Norma J. Wolfe in 1991, and nephew Terry R. Wolfe in 2019.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, June 27th, at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home, 524 Broadway, with Pastor Dale Biehl officiating.  Following the service, she will be laid to rest in Memorial Park Cemetery.  Friends are invited to visit and share memories of Etta with the family from 2:00 – 6:00 PM Sunday, June 26th at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home. The family has requested memorial contributions be made payable to Wabash Community Church.  Online condolences may be sent to www.goodwinsievers.com.
