
Washington’s City Council passed two new ordinances and heard the introduction of two new proposals last night.
The first new ordinance addressed size requirements for agricultural accessory buildings on agriculture zoned areas.
A proposal that was not on the agenda received the most discussion time. A proposal to allow construction of condominium townhouses on Bussard Road brought a couple of area residents to last night’s meeting. Two residents complained that allowing the townhouses would diminish their property values and that children living in the townhouses would not have adequate play areas. Mayor Dave Rhoads and City Building Commissioner Johnathan Casper explained that the current request was only for a zoning change from Residential 2 to Residential 3. Mayor Rhoads explained that the actual plans for the housing development have not yet been presented and would have to be approved by the City Plan Commission.
Another ordinance to rezone a tract of property on N.W. 21st Street to R-3 was given its first reading last night. Yolonda Bostic is looking to build apartment buildings on that ground. Bostic said she had scaled back previous plans and now only plans to build 40 apartment units. She said the apartment complex would not be subsidized rental apartments.
The Council also heard the introduction of an ordinance that would change language regarding collecting late payment penalties for overdue bills.
In other business, the council agreed to let City employees carry over two vacation days into 2022 with the stipulation the vacation days be used by March 1. Mayor Rhoads also reminded residents of the upcoming Christmas Parade…
