Crews begin construction on outdoor pickleball courts

The Daviess County Pickleball group celebrated the groundbreaking of the new pickleball courts Friday.

Don Gress construction has begun work on the eight outdoor courts at Longfellow Park in Washington.

Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in the United States and attracts players of all ages and walks of life.

The Daviess County Pickleball group has been raising money since January for the courts through grants and private donations. The project is expected to cost around $250,000-$300,000.

Don Gress Construction worked with the Parks Department and the City of Washington on the location for the new courts. Washington Mayor Dave Rhoads says it will be a great addition to the park…

Daviess County Chamber of Commerce Director, Joe Morris was also in attendance and noted that pickleball will be a way to promote tourism in Daviess County. The courts are expected to be completed by September.
