The City of Washington is getting closer to passing a Noise Ordinance.

The first reading of a noise ordinance was conducted at Monday night’s City Council Meeting.

Much of the discussion was spent on the decibel level.

Mayor Dave Rhoads said that he thought the 80 decibel limit was too high.

He said he would like to see that lower along with Washington Police Chief, Derrick Devine, who would like it set around 55.

Officials plan to enforce the ordinance with the use of decibel meters.

Exceptions are in the ordinance for routine activity, emergency generators, and construction.

Those in the meeting also discussed having different decibel levels at certain times, verses it keeping the same level 24/7.

The Ordinance will be up for adoption at the next Washington City Council meeting following further input from the city and public.
