A stay of execution has been granted for a woman at the Federal Correctional Complex in Terre Haute. Lisa Montgomery was scheduled to be put to death today, but a judge now says her mental competence needs to be determined. Montgomery was convicted of strangling a pregnant Missouri woman to death and cutting the baby out. If the sentence goes forward, Montgomery would be the first woman executed by the federal government since 1953.
