The Indianapolis Colts enter the offseason with 16 unrestricted free agents, but none are more important than 39-year-old quarterback Philip Rivers. The future Hall of Famer signed a one-year, 25 million dollar deal last offseason after 16 seasons with the Chargers and whether or not he returns is arguably the biggest offseason question for the Colts. Coach Frank Reich reiterated Sunday he would like to have Rivers back next season and that he believes Rivers has great football ahead of him, but knows the decision is up to general manager Chris Ballard and team owner Jim Irsay. Rivers will turn 40 during next season, but enjoyed a career revitalization after a dismal 2019 season with the Chargers.
The Indiana Pacers begin their longest road trip of the season Monday night against the Sacramento Kings. Monday’s game with the Kings begins a five-game, seven day Western Conference road trip that continues Tuesday night against Golden State and includes two back-to-backs. The Blue and Gold are 6-3 after their home loss to the Phoenix Suns Saturday.
The Cleveland Browns have been dreaming 26 years for a night like this. Which came after overcoming a nightmare week. And only after avoiding a nightmare finish. Cleveland jumped to a stunning 28-0 first-quarter lead on Sunday in Pittsburgh, then held on to beat the Steelers 48-37 for its first playoff victory since 1994. One week after ending the NFL’s longest playoff drought, the Browns also snapped a 17-game losing streak at Heinz Field, which was the third-longest road losing streak to a single opponent in league history. Cleveland will face the top-seeded Chiefs in Kansas City in the AFC divisional round next Sunday.
Jimmy Graham capped a 99-yard drive with a one-handed touchdown catch as time expired in the Chicago Bears’ 21-9 loss to the New Orleans Saints in an NFC wild-card game on Sunday. Graham’s touchdown did not affect the outcome of the game but did have bettors who took the Bears plus the points wondering why Chicago didn’t attempt either an extra point or 2-point conversion after the score that could’ve impacted the spread. The Bears closed as 11-point underdogs.
Lamar Jackson finally has his first postseason victory — and on the road, no less. Combine that with Baltimore smothering 2,000-yard rusher Derrick Henry, and the Ravens look playoff tough. Jackson ran for 136 yards and a 48-yard touchdown while throwing for 179 more as the Ravens rallied from 10 points down and beat the Tennessee Titans 20-13 Sunday in their AFC wild-card game. Baltimore also held Tennessee to its fewest points all season.
