The Daviess County Community Foundation has announced that Audrey Wright is the 2021 recipient of the Daviess County Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship. This scholarship provides the recipient with otherwise unreimbursed full-tuition, required fees, and a special allocation of up to $900 per year for required books and required equipment for four years of undergraduate study on a full-time basis leading to a baccalaureate degree at any Indiana public or private nonprofit college or university, accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
Audrey is the daughter of Jaret and Jessica Wright of Washington. She is a senior at Washington High School and plans to attend an Indiana college studying Marketing and Accounting. In addition to exceling academically, Audrey has been involved in a variety of school activities including the Daviess County CEO Program, Kelley School of Business’ Young Women’s Institute, Business Professionals of America, cross country, track and field, and cheerleading. She has served as Indiana State President in BETA Club. Outside of school, Audrey spends much of her time volunteering, including Habitat for Humanity, Tri-Kappa Daddy Daughter Dance, Backpack Blessings, and a mission trip to Rwanda. She enjoys traveling and the fine arts. During high school, Audrey started her own photography business aimed at helping other students who may not be able to afford professional senior photos.
Scholarship award alternates were also announced. Gracie Madison and Sophia Davis will receive a scholarship from the Friends of Daviess County Fund.
The Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program is administered locally by the Community Foundation, with the support of local high schools, and the administrative oversight by the Independent Colleges of Indiana, Inc. (ICI). Since the program was first introduced in 1998, Lilly Endowment Inc. has provided over $424M in grant support for the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program.
The primary purposes of the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program are 1) to help raise the level of educational attainment in Indiana; 2) to increase awareness of the beneficial roles Indiana community foundations can play in their communities; and 3) to encourage and support the efforts of current and past Lilly Endowment Community Scholars to engage with each other and with Indiana business, governmental, educational, nonprofit and civic leaders to improve the quality of life in Indiana generally and in local communities throughout the state.
