The Washington Catholic Lady Cardinals ended a great soccer season Saturday in the regional semi finals 1-0 to Trinity Lutheran.  The Lady Cardinals wrap up a great run with the school’s first girls soccer sectional championship and a final record of 9-7. 

The Washington Lady Hatchet Volleyball team fell in the sectional semi finals at Sullivan losing to Vincennes Lincoln 3-1.  Vincennes went on to win the sectional championship over Sullivan 3-0. 

In 2A at Eastern Greene, the Barr Reeve Lady Vikings are regional bound winning the sectional championship with a 3-1 win over Linton.  Next up for Barr Reeve will be North Decatur at 10am Saturday morning in Mitchell.  The other semi final has Henryville playing Tecumseh.  Follow the Lady Vikings in the regional on the General 95.9 / 101.3 / AM 1580. 

Loogootee claimed their own sectional championship by shutting out Shoals in the title match 3-0 on Saturday.  Loogootee is now regional bound facing Springs Valley back at Jack Butcher Arena on Saturday at 10am.  Rock Creek Academy plays Trinity Lutheran in the other semi final at Loogootee.  

The South Knox boys Cross Country team advanced to semi state with a second place finish at Prides Creek on Saturday.  Castle claimed the top spot.  Colton Stoll was the top runner for Barr Reeve finishing in 34th place.  Washington’s Eli Wilson finished 69th overall.  Matt Gray was 79th. 

In the girls race South Knox won the top spot and Barr Reeve advanced with a second place finish moving on to semi state Saturday.  Makenna Pruett finished fourth overall for Barr Reeve.  Audrey Wright was 33rd for the Lady Hatchets.   

In tennis, Jordan Wildman of Loogootee was knocked out of the individual singles tournament falling to Bloomington North’s Nicholas Shirley 6-2, 6-0.  Wildman ends a great year in tennis at 18 and 2 and a career total 82 wins at Loogootee High School.  Shirley moves on winning his championship match later in the day.   

The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Atlanta Braves 4-3 in Game 7 of the National League Championship Series to advance to the World Series. Dodgers center fielder Cody Bellinger crushed a solo home run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to give Los Angeles a 4-3 lead. LA overcame a 3-1 series deficit to win the National League pennant for the third time in four years. The Dodgers will take on the Tampa Bay Rays in the World Series, which gets underway Tuesday night in Arlington, Texas. The Dodgers have not won the Fall Classic since 1988, while the Rays have never won it all. 

Purdue football coach Jeff Brohm presumably tested positive for COVID-19, the school announced Sunday. Brohm returned a presumed positive result via an antigen test Sunday, and the school is awaiting confirmation via a PCR test. The fourth-year Boilermakers head coach is at home in isolation. Per Big Ten regulations, Brohm must stay in isolation for 10 days and can return to the team if he has been symptom free for 24 hours. Purdue kicks off the 2020 season this Saturday at home against Iowa. 

The Indianapolis Colts came from 21 points down to defeat the Cincinnati Bengals 31-27 Sunday afternoon at Lucas Oil Stadium. The Colts trailed 21-0 early in the second quarter before embarking on the biggest regular season comeback in the team’s history. Cincinnati was driving in the final minute when rookie quarterback Joe Burrow was intercepted by Colts rookie safety Julian Blackmon. Colts quarterback Philip Rivers completed 29 of 44 passes for 371 yards with three touchdowns and an interception as Indianapolis improved to 4-2. 

The Bears are now 5 and 1 with a 23 to 16 win over the Panthers 

The Denver Broncos grabbed the big win on the day topping the Patriots 18 to 12 

The Niners topped the RAMS in Sunday night football last night 24 to 16 

The Titans topped the Texans in overtime 42 to 36 

Tampa Bay cruised to a 38 to 10 win over the Packers 

The Ravens edged out the Eagles 30 to 28 

Joey Logano won at Kansas Speedway to start the third round of the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs and clinch a spot in the championship race next month.
