School board accepts donations & approves athletic appointments

Washington’s school board made quick work of a short agenda Thursday evening.   The Board accepted a gift of $7,000 from WAMW to upgrade the sound system at Hatchet Hollow.  A second gift of $2,000 from the WHS Class of 1987 was split between Hatchets Helping Hatchets and the WHS PBIS program.

In personnel matters, the Board accepted the resignation of IT assistant, Garbriel Martin effective October 19.  The Board also approved athletic appointments: Lori Hancock as head tennis coach, Austin Fox as 7th grade boy’s basketball coach,   Corey Bouchie as boys basketball coach at Veale, and Greg Boyd as boys basketball coach at North. Bouchie and Boyd will also serve as 6th grade travel team coaches. Jenna Bedwell will be the 6th grade girls travel team coach, and Benjamin Wilkerson was approved as a volunteer wrestling coach.    

In other business, the School Board awarded a contract to Rex Gress Construction to demolish three structures on school owned property on SR 257.   The Board also approved the school calendar for the 2021-2022 school year.Washington Superintendent Dr. Dan Roach said the calendar is very similar to this year’s calendar.  The first day for teachers next year will be August 4th.
