On Friday, July 10, Good Samaritan Foundation presented 16 AED devices to Vincennes local law enforcement. The AED’s were presented to representatives from the Knox County Sheriff’s Department, Vincennes Police Department and Vincennes University Police Department.
AED’s, Automated External Defibrillators, are used to help persons experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. The medical device can analyze the heart’s rhythm and, if necessary, deliver an electrical shock, or defibrillation, to help re-establish an effective heart rhythm.
Gary Hackney, Director of Good Samaritan Foundation, stated that the relationship between the hospital and local law enforcement is important to the community. “Good Samaritan and the local law enforcement have built a trusting partnership that is vital to ensuring the health and safety of those we serve,” he said. “The Foundation is honored to assist in providing quality and safe care to the members of our community.”
With the Vincennes University Police Department having adequate resources at this time, all 16 AED devices, valued at more than $20,000, were split equally between the Vincennes Police Department and the Knox County Sheriff’s Department. Knox County Sheriff, Doug Vantlin, stated that the eight machines the department received helps the team get closer to achieving their goal of having an AED device in every squad car. Robert Dunham, Vincennes Police Chief, also expressed his thanks for the donation. “We appreciate and value our relationship with Good Samaritan,” said Dunham. “The donation of these AED devices means so much to all of us in law enforcement and our community.”
