William “Bill” O. Wilson, 74, of Loogootee, passed away at 8:50 p.m. on Wednesday, January 1, 2020 at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center.
He was born February 25, 1945 in Washington, Indiana to the late George Marvin Wilson and Jean Louise (Armstrong) Riney.
Bill was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and St. Martin Catholic Church. He was active in the St. Martin Men’s Club. He was a proud member of the Martin County Historical Society and West Baden Historical Society.
He loved to talk and specifically loved to talk about tractors, especially John Deere. He owned many different John Deere tractors throughout the years. Bill was very knowledgeable and listened very intently to the many people he spoke with. He enjoyed learning about history and genealogy.
Bill boarded horses for many years while in Michigan. He loved spending time outdoors and taking care of his garden and tomato plants. He also liked canning his homegrown tomatoes.
He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Jean Louise and John Riney; father, George Marvin Wilson; granddaughter, Kay Lee Waldroop; brother, John George Wilson.
Bill is survived by his wife of 51 years, Dianna (Fleck) Wilson of Loogootee; children, Charles William Wilson and Holly Kay (John) Waldroop, both of Belleville, Michigan; a nephew that they helped raise, John Stanford Wilson; grandchildren, Cheyenne, Kurtis and Elijah Wilson and Madison, Kimberly, Georgia and Amelia Waldroop; honorary grandchildren, Jessica Wilson and John Alvin Wilson; sisters, Ila (Jim) Schierenberg and Jackie Mills.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Very Rev. J. Kenneth Walker at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 10, 2020 at St. Martin Catholic Church in Loogootee. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held Thursday, January 9, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Blake Funeral Home in Loogootee and Friday, January 10, 2020 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Martin County Historical Society or the St. Martin Men’s Club.
