Leighty pleads Not Guilty in neglect case

A Washington man remains jailed in Martin County on a $100,000 for Neglect of a Dependent Causing Serious Bodily Injury, a Level 3 Felony.  However, Indiana State Police are working with additional evidence to change that charge to Neglect of  a Dependent Resulting in Death.
26-year-old Bobby Leighty of Washington was arrested last week after an investigation that began a week ago when detectives were called to look into injuries to a one month old.  State Police said Leighty was taking care of the baby when the infant became unresponsive. Leighty called family members, who called 911 and the baby was taken to Daviess Community Hospital and then flown to Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis.  One month old Kyson Jones died last Friday.
Leighty pleaded not guilty at an initial hearing in Martin County Tuesday. An attorney was appointed for him and a trial date was set for January 28, 2020.
