Dubois County Exploring Options for County Jail

Dubois County held a public hearing on what to do with the County Jail Monday night. And according to WFIE-TV, less than 40 people attended.

Dubois County is looking at two options: the first would be to expand the current jail on to ground located near the current security center, remodeling the jail to bump the number of beds to 277, expanding community corrections, and a connector between the courts and the jail. The cost of this option would be a little more than $43 million.   The second option , estimated to cost around $50 million, would use the Old National Bank site at Sixth and Mill Streets, add two buildings, one for the jail beds, and the other for a parking garage. The bank building would be upgraded and used for office space.   Dubois County’s Security Center was built in 1990.
