Initiative underway to make Daviess County better

Business leaders, city and county office holders, and members of the public gathered yesterday to provide input and identify potential areas and projects where Daviess County can grow.

Topics discussed included quality of place, workforce attraction and development, and county amenities that can help attract and retain residents, especially young adults coming back to raise a family.

Daviess County is part of a group that is establishing a comprehensive planning effort for an 11-county region where funding up to $3 million dollars may be available to implement some of the programs discussed.

Some ideas are already beginning to be put in place as Kip Kelley with the Parks Department informed the group of a new dog park that will be coming soon to South Park.  And, walking trails around the county are also being worked on for families.

The overall group agreed on the need of a Cultural Diversity Center that will also serve as a hub for students working in technical fields for all four county schools for hands on training, and an events center to host concerts, business meetings, and conferences.  The group agreed a location near I-69 would be ideal for this new addition.  An online survey, is now available at http://bit.ly/DaviessCountySurvey for residents to add input to the discussion.  Yesterday’s meeting was conducted by the MEK Group out of Indianapolis.
