Juanita Flick, 92, of Loogootee passed away on Saturday March 16, 2019 at 3:06 AM at Martin County Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born on January 31, 1927 in Beckley, West Virginia to Thomas C. Sr. and Maude (Harvey) Troutman.
Juanita moved to Indiana after graduating from high school, at the age of 17 to get a job. Her first job was at the Reliance Shirt Factory. Juanita married Elmer Flick on July 27, 1946.
During her life, she worked many jobs. She worked the longest, 27 years, and was proud of her position as ECA Treasurer at Loogootee High School. After her retirement from that position, she helped develop a software program for ECA Treasurers in high schools throughout the State of Indiana.
Juanita was a member of Loogootee Christian Church where she sang in the choir for many years. She also sang duets with Betty Dove during church services on numerous occasions. During her retirement years, she helped in the church office.
In her leisure time, Juanita enjoyed and was best known for her knitting. Over the years she knitted many pieces for family members and friends. She is most known for an afghan blanket she made for her cousin Marvin Harvey, who was a golf pro at the New Smyrna Beach Country Club. She designed the afghan herself by using a score card from the country club, it depicted the entire 18 hole course. She even incorporated Marvin Harvey’s actual signature into the design. The afghan hung in the country club until Marvin’s retirement.
Juanita also enjoyed playing golf herself and spent many enjoyable hours on the links with some of her best friends. She belonged to various clubs over the years, such as the Business and Professional Women’s group – an investment club, and the South Martin Arts, Reading, Travel, and Study Society.
She is preceded in death by her husband Elmer Flick, who passed away on July 11, 1999, her parents; Thomas Sr. and Maude Troutman, her grandson William T. “Willie” Walton, Great- Grandson Gavin Thomas Rudder ll, her siblings; Jeri Hartford, Thomas C. Troutman Jr., Ronald E. “Arlie” Troutman, and her sister- in- law, Helen Troutman.
Juanita is survived by her children; Judy (Tony) Walton and Wayne (Kelley) Flick, her grandchildren; Shannon (Ryan) Biggs, Stephanie Carpenter – Weinman (Malcolm), Gavin (Rachel) Rudder, Tyler (Amelia) Flick, Trevor Flick, her step- grandchildren; Danielle Ford, and Caleb Ford, her Great- Grandchildren; Kristin Biggs, Hannah Biggs, Ellie Biggs, Tylie Walton, Dakota Weinman, Casey Weinman, Sean Cantu-Rudder, Tyler Rudder, Cooper Rudder, Peyton Rudder, and step- great- grandchild; Adrienne Ford, and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday March 20, 2019 at 10:00 A.M at Blake Funeral Home in Loogootee with Pastor Gary Elsten officiating. Burial will follow in Goodwill Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday March 19, 2019 from 3:00 until 8:00 P.M, and also on Wednesday March 20, 2019 from 9:00 AM until the time of service, all at the funeral home.
