Outgoing Knox County Sheriff Mike Morris is the state’s newest Sagamore of the Wabash.
He received the honor from the state prior to a Knox County Council meeting. It was presented to him by his sons, Luke and Aaron, a firefighter and a deputy respectively.
Members of the council praised Morris’s service for the last 10 years. Morris took over when Sheriff Steve Luce resigned to head the state sheriff’s association and then Morris won two terms and due to term limits could not run for Sheriff again. He did run for Auditor and will take over that position at the Knox County Courthouse next month.
Morris was praised for doubling the size of the Sheriff’s Department, putting officers in the all of the schools and for taking over and running the Knox County Jail after the new facility was opened 10 years ago.
