The Barr Reeve School system continues to grow. On the first day of the 2018-19 school year yesterday, there were 110 Kindergarten students and 64 1st Graders.
School Superintendent Travis Madison told the Washington Times Herald (www.washtimesherald.com) it’s the largest number they’ve ever had there and extra tables and chairs had to be brought in for the first day. He said they are still working on the pick-up and drop off process at the school. Yesterday 3rd Street was blocked off however, Madison says that plan didn’t work very well. He and the Resource Officer are working on the issue.
Madison says he’s expecting an increase of 50 to 70 students overall from K-12 grade. He says that’s all the more reason for a proposed building project to go through. The $12 million proposal includes expanding the main school building, adding classrooms and a new gym.
