James Frederic Kimmell, 70, passed away at 8:27 am on July 7, 2018 at his residence. Fred was born on August 26, 1947 in Vincennes the son of James E. and Betty L. (King) Kimmell. He married Alice Olsen on December 26, 1967.
Fred served his country in U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict and worked as a Knox County Police Officer for over thirty years in various capacities. He was a member First Baptist Church, American Legion, VFW, and Fraternal Order of Police. Fred enjoyed spending time with his family, slow pitch softball, stock car races, and watching sports.
Survivors include his wife, Alice Kimmell of Vincennes; sons, Jeff Kimmell of Petersburg, Brad Kimmell and his wife Brittany of Indianapolis; sister Diana Baum and her companion Sonny Amistoso of Vincennes; brothers, Mark Kimmell and his wife Diane of Lawrenceville, Tom Kimmell and his wife Eva of Victoria, TX; grandchildren, Cameron, Payten, Reagan, Gabby, Maya, Emmy, and Addy Kimmell; and his dog Chief. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, and infant twin granddaughters.
Friends may visit with Fred’s family on Monday, July 9, 2018 from 4-7 pm at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway. Fred’s funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at Goodwin Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Knox County D.A.R.E. Program.
