Terre Haute Man Jailed for Impersonating DOD Officer

(NETWORK INDIANA)  A Terre Haute man was arrested in Illinois after he walked into a sheriff’s office heavily armed and pretending to be a federal officer.

Edgar County, Illinois deputies say Justin Hefner approached their office armed with a pistol showing asking to speak with an officer. Hefner told them he was an officer with the Department of Defense and had a badge on that was partially covered.

The deputies arrested him when they discovered he was wear a second bullet proof vest under the one he was asked to remove before entering the jail. When they searched his car, they found a second fake badge along with an AR-15 and lots of ammunition.

Police also say the vehicle Hefner was driving had flashing lights in it as well as a police dash cam. When deputies looked at his Facebook page they found out he had plans to target certain people in Edgar County and Paris, Illinois.

Hefner is in jail for impersonating a public officer, unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of body armor.
