Washington City Council introduces 3 ordinances

ordinance-3

The Washington City Council heard the introduction of three new potential ordinances at their Monday night meeting.

The Park Board has purchased a new LED sign for the entrance to East Side Park and asked the Council to enact a $25 fee for organizations or individuals wanting to advertise events.

Another proposed ordinance attempts to correct a problem caused when, nearly 60 years ago, the retaining wall at Washington Catholic Elementary was mistakenly built on the right of way of Northeast 2nd Street.  The Catholic Schools are planning to add an awning to the front of the building and have asked the city to vacate two feet of the east side of the 2nd Street right of way.   T

he third ordinance introduced Monday night set out requirements and standards for any person or business who cuts a city street or sidewalk.  The ordinance would also provide financial penalties for businesses or individuals whose work is below city standards.

Also last night the council enacted two new. One re-establishes the Cumulative Capital Development Fund Rate and the other added new streets to the city’s official street inventory.

Following the Council meeting the Board of Works approved naming the new street being built by the Daviess County Economic Development Corporation on the east aide industrial area “Technology Drive”.  The Board also accepted the resignation of police Patrolman Rodney Helderman.   Chief of Police Todd Church told the Board he would re commend current reserve officer Hugo Mandujano  as Helderman’s replacement.
