Linda Sue “Susie” Bresh, 62, of Washington, IN, passed peacefully surrounded by her family on May 18, 2017. She was a great warrior battling colon cancer for 8 ½ years.

Linda was born on May 29, 1954 to Floyd Taylor and Nancy (Hughey) Taylor-Strockbine. She married her loving husband, Everett “Gene” Bresh on May 18, 1974.
Linda is survived by her husband Gene, her mother Nancy Hughey-Strockbine, two children, Brett Bresh (Nikki) of Cloverdale and Amy Bresh of Evansville; granddaughter Clarissa Baumert of Evansville; step grandchildren Nick and Masey Chambers both of Cloverdale; three much loved sisters: Rae Ann Brown (Jim), Sandy Burris (Randy), and Nancy Case (Rob); several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews as well as a great-great niece and great-great nephew; also many cherished aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her father Floyd Taylor.
Linda had many wonderful accomplishments in her life. She graduated from Vincennes University in 1980 with the award of HIGHEST DISTINCTION HONOR of 4.0 GPA. She also received the Mary K. Polk English Award; and received the Overall Social Science Award. She compiled a perfect 4.0 average while taking 27 hours of English and achieved the same perfect GPA in taking 20 hours of social science classes. She was not a social science major, yet received the Overall Outstanding Senior Award in Social Science classes.
Linda received her Bachelor of Science in 1982 from Indiana State University. She was awarded the Hazel Phenning Award at ISU. It is awarded to students majoring in English, based upon academic achievement (minimum 3.5 GPA). Linda earned her Masters Degree from ISU in 1987.
She taught reading at Vincennes University from 1982-1983, then taught reading for one year at Washington High School, moved to Washington Junior High School and taught English for 5 years, and then she returned to Washington High School where she taught Honors English, VU Comp, and was the Yearbook sponsor until her retirement due to her illness.
Linda enjoyed meeting with friends, co-workers and family. She was always planning the next get-together. Linda was a member of Delta Kapa Gamma for over 25 years. She met with several monthly groups after retiring: the WHS group known as the “Juliets”, the WJHS group known as the “Tuesday Tenderloin” group, the “Third Tuesday Gals” group, and she also started a monthly “Cousins” group.
Linda’s motto was-“Be good. Be kind. Be Positive.” She lived it everyday. She also kept it written on the chalkboard in her classroom. During her 8 ½ years battling with cancer, her motto was “Hanging in, Hanging on, Keeping faith.”
The funeral service for Linda will take place on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at 10:00am at Gill Funeral Home. Friends may call on Monday, May 22, 2017 from 4-8pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at the New Veale Creek Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.gillsince1872.com.
